Our Story
Nestled in the heart of Waterloo, Ontario, this legendary institution sprang to life in December 1989, a beacon of martial arts excellence under the moniker of Waterloo Martial Arts. Within the walls of 55 Erb Street, a community of warriors began their journey on March 6th, 1990, forging bonds that would endure through the ages. Some of the original disciples still stand tall, their dedication a testament to the enduring spirit of the art.
A decade later, in the dawn of the new millennium, the center embarked on a new chapter, relocating to 28 Bridgeport Road, where it would leave an indelible mark for 17 years. Here, amidst the hustle and bustle of Waterloo, the club blossomed into a cornerstone of Classical Martial Arts Canada, its name metamorphosing into the Kitchener Waterloo Classical Martial Arts Centre. With affiliations spanning the globe, it became a beacon of martial arts excellence, drawing seekers from far and wide.
But evolution is the essence of life, and in 2017, the center embarked on a grand odyssey to its current abode at 300 Gage Avenue in Kitchener. This new haven, with its spacious training area and state-of-the-art facilities, became a sanctuary for practitioners from Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and beyond. Here, amidst soaring ceilings and pristine hardwood and mats, the spirit of martial arts thrives, invigorated by the promise of growth and renewal.
The winds of change brought forth unforeseen challenges, yet the spirit of KW-CMAC remained unyielding. When the pandemic cast its shadow, the center embraced innovation, pioneering an online format that transcended borders and boundaries. Former students scattered across the globe reunited in virtual unity, the bonds of camaraderie stronger than ever.
As the center approaches its 35th anniversary, its gaze is fixed firmly on the horizon, with a resolve to continue expanding and promoting the practice of classical martial arts. With each passing year, it nurtures a new generation of warriors, imbued with the values of discipline, resilience, and perseverance. For in the crucible of training, they forge not just strong bodies, but resilient minds, ready to confront the myriad challenges that life may offer.
